A Behind the Scenes Look: 2025 Styles 4 Kidz 'Your Hair Is Your Crown' Hair Show
The 2025 Styles4Kidz “Your Hair Is Your Crown” Hair Show was nothing short of spectacular! This annual event, held on Sunday, March 23, at the Lund Auditorium at Dominican University, celebrated culture, confidence, and community. From stunning hairstyles to powerful messages of self-love, this show truly embodied the heart of Styles4Kidz.
Before we discuss exclusive behind-the-scenes moments, we want to thank the incredible sponsors, volunteers, and staff at Dominican University for their support. Your efforts helped bring this vision to life!
A Creative Tribute: The 'Black Is Beautiful' Section
This year, we had an incredibly special segment called “Black Is Beautiful,” led by talented hairstylists Shavonne Patterson and Ms. Latrice. Their inspiration? The historic 1960s Black Is Beautiful movement was a time when Black people boldly embraced their natural beauty in defiance of societal norms.
Shavonne shared her passion for the project: "Our goal was to inspire our clients and remind little Black girls everywhere that their hair is beautiful, no matter what society may tell them.”
She explained the deep historical connection, “Many people don’t realize that the ‘Black Is Beautiful’ movement was a direct response to European beauty standards. In the 1960s, we were reclaiming our identity through afros, braids, and curls—styles that continue to shape Black American culture today.”
The result? A breathtaking showcase of afros, intricate braids, and voluminous curls that lit up the stage, reflecting the confidence and beauty of each model. Shavonne expressed how emotional it was to see the young girls shine in the spotlight, saying, “It’s one thing to see them in the salon, but watching them own the stage with such pride? That was an unforgettable moment.”
Meet Kara: A Fresh Perspective from Behind the Scenes
Another key player in this year’s success was Kara, a salon assistant who helped bring each model’s look to life. As a newcomer to the Styles 4 Kidz family, this was her first experience working behind the scenes of the show, and she was eager to share what the experience meant to her.
“I worked alongside Ms. Tamekia and Ms. Shavonne, helping with foundational work like shampooing and flat ironing,” Kara shared. “Watching them add the finishing touches was so inspiring.”
Beyond hairstyling, Kara also played a crucial role in making sure models were stage-ready and on time—a task that came with its own set of challenges. But despite the hustle, she described the experience as heartwarming, saying, “Seeing all the kids in their different styles and outfits, dancing and having fun—it was just beautiful. It really touched my heart.”
So, what’s next for Kara? She’s setting her sights on having her models in the show one day! “Oh, absolutely,” she said without hesitation. “That’s the goal—to help people embrace themselves and bring smiles to their faces.”
A Celebration of Confidence & Culture
The 2025 Styles4Kidz Hair Show was more than just an event—it was a powerful celebration of identity, beauty, and self-expression.
From the artistry of our stylists to the dedication of our assistants and volunteers, every detail came together to create an unforgettable night. Thank you to everyone who made this show possible! We can’t wait to do it again next year—bigger, bolder, and more beautiful than ever!
